From Campuses to Cities: How Research is Driving Change
Universities around the world are taking an active role in addressing climate change by forming specialized research groups with diverse objectives. One of those initiatives is TULE (Transición hacia una Universidad Libre de Emisiones), or Transition towards a University Free of Emissions, from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). TULE is a Thematic Research Community from the University, and is committed to reducing emissions within the university while serving as a model for broader climate action.

What We Do
At the UPM, our work revolves around three key pillars: research, dissemination, and execution of activities, all of which are interconnected. Research within our community leads to the development and execution of projects, which in turn provide valuable insights and outcomes that we actively share with the wider public.

Collaboration and Partnerships
Building strong alliances is fundamental to our mission. We prioritize collaboration both within our research team and beyond the university, working closely with municipal governments, public schools, NGOs, and private entities. These partnerships help strengthen and expand our impact, ensuring that our findings contribute to real-world solutions.
Our Role in POSEIDON
In the POSEIDON project, TULE researchers from UPM take on a leading role in project coordination and management. We are responsible for several key Work Package tasks, ensuring that the research is effectively implemented and aligned with broader climate objectives.
Beyond research and implementation, we place a strong emphasis on dissemination, particularly through scientific publications and research collaborations. By encouraging our partners to actively share their findings, we help ensure that knowledge generated within POSEIDON reaches a wider audience. This approach not only amplifies the impact of our work but also fosters innovation by promoting the exchange of ideas across institutions and disciplines.
As universities continue to step up in the fight against climate change, research groups like TULE at the UPM play a crucial role in developing and implementing sustainable solutions. By combining research, partnerships, and real-world testing, we aim to drive meaningful change, not just within our university, but on a much larger scale.
